Jesse van der Spek - MSc student
Jesse van der Spek obtained his BSc in Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology at University College Utrecht in 2018. In his Bachelor’s thesis project, ‘Expressing Intention by Shifting Attention’, he explored new ways for locked-in patients to communicate by controlling an EEG-based Brain-Computer Interface with Covert Visuospatial Attention. After continuing working on this topic as a Research Officer under supervision of prof. Peter Desain at the Donders Institute in Nijmegen, he started a Research Master’s degree in Cognitive Neuroscience at Radboud University in 2019. From September 2020 - Spetember 2021, he worked on his Master’s thesis project, under supervision of Dr. Hanneke den Ouden & Johannes Algermissen. Utilizing techniques such as MEG and fMRI, he shed light on neural underpinnings of motivational biases during learning and decision-making processes. Besides his thesis project, Jesse was also involved in the Donders Centre for Cognition as lab support steward.
Jesse currently works as a Data Engineer at Van Lanschot Kempen
